The System

The whole system is composed of the following elements: (Click HERE to see what the theory behind the design of this system)

  1. Around 50 Park and Ride Stations (P&RS) including train, bus and ferry all over the city. Each P&RS will have 150 up to 1000 parking spaces, totalling up to 30,000 car park capacity, free for commuters to use. Click HERE to see P&R Stations’ distribution details and how we could get them with the cost of next to nothing.
  2. About 15 Car Pool Only Lanes (CPOL) all over the city and connected to greater CBD. Click HERE for the details.
  3. Local Connecting Network (LCN). This will connect many people from their home to their local P&RS, between local main centres, CBD and beyond. Click HERE for details.
  4. Car Pool Only Area (CPOA) also being defined as “greater Auckland CBD”(GCBD) with free bus services within this areas. It consists of 4 TCs (Transit Centres) and the bus routes shaped like a smaller circles within a large circle. (Click HERE for illustrations of the area and some of the routes have also been discussed in “The Cases”) The smaller circular routes are between Britomart and Kingsland through Queen Street/Symonds St or Hobson St/Nelson St; between Newmarket and Viaduct through Khyber Pass- Wellesley Street/Victoria St. The large circular route is from Britomart to Viaduct through Fanshawe Street then to Kingsland through College Rd, Ponsonby Rd and Great North Rd; from Kingsland to Newmarket through Walters Rd, Valley Rd, Owen Rd, Manukau Rd and Broadway; finally from Newmarket to Britomart through Broadway, Parnell Rd and Beach Rd to completthe circle. The area where within this large circular route connecting 4 TCs is CPOA (Car Pool Only Area) which is also defined as “greater Auckland CBD” (GCBD). This is a much larger area than current commonly defined CBD. Click HERE for the details of the bus routes in CPOA.
  5. The Rail System: All main rail stations will be upgraded to P&R Stations with the capacity of 300 to 1000 car park spaces. For western trains there are always plenty of buses waiting at Kingsland station for every arriving train and taking commuters, whose working/studying places are in western part of the greater CBD.  For southern trains there are always plenty of buses waiting at New Market station for every arriving train and taking commuters, whose working/studying places are in South / western part of the greater CBD. The rest of the train commuters (approximately one third of total train commuters) will come to Britomart station and we will also have plenty of buses waiting at the station for every arriving train and taking them to their destinations in the greater CBD.    Note: as soon as the train commuters jump off the train one of the buses waiting outside of the train station will take them to a bus stop where shall be shorter than 500 metres away from their destination, free of charge. You can click HERE to see how the rail lines are connected with bus routes. You can also click HERE to see how the rail system works under the FACTS.
  6. Ferry system: All ferry stations will be facilitated as P&RS with each having 150 -300 car park spaces. On top of the current ferry routes we will have additional stops at Browns Bay and Beach Haven. At the ferry terminals in conjunction with Britomart station we will have plenty of buses for every arriving ferry boat and taking ferry commuters to their destinations in the greater CBD, still free of charge.
  7. “One Basket” bus service management system (OBBSMS). It consists of three types of buses. Local connecting bus (LCB) which has the sole purpose of going around and around in local route that connecting local main centres; b. CBD Connecting Bus (CBDCB): As described in 5 above. c. City connecting buses (CCB). There are two types of CCBs. Some of the CCBs will just connect between certain P&RS to TCs through CPOL and others will not only go around the local routes, go through CPOL and also go through part of greater DCB then come back to where they started, or vice versa and repeat the same journey all day. Click HERE to see the example of how the “One basket” system woks under the FACTS. You can also click HERE, HERE, and HERE to see the illustrations of the system.
  8. Free bus services within the greater Auckland CBD. With P&R stations around the city no feeding buses will be needed. Under OBBSMS only about 25 buses’ sole purpose are for the greater CBD. The main source of the buses needed within the greater CBD will be from outside of the area. (See OBBSMS above) This will dramatically reduce the number of buses needed for our bus services. This is the reason why we could afford to have free bus service in the greater CBD.
  9. 4 Transit Centres (TC) around the great Auckland CBD, which are located in Britomart(BTC), Viaduct(VTC), Kingsland(KTC) and New Market(NMTC). click HERE, HERE, and HERE to see the illustrations of the system.

Other supporting elements to the system:

  1. As soon as you come to the greater Auckland CBD any bus services become free.
  2. All public transport services outside of the greater Auckland CBD will be subsidised to make sure that using public transport is cheaper than driving their own car unless they can car pooling themselves.
  3. Some of the Car Pool Only Lanes will be operated similar to Auckland Harbour bridge using the way of lane changing during morning and afternoon peak hours but would use much smaller machine, or even manually, and lighter lane barriers. A typical example is the route starting from Birkenhead through Onewa Road to motorway.
  4. All buses will be managed similar to trains. Each stop will show the time next bus supposed to arrive. All buses will do whatever they can to arrive on time. In the event of unforeseen situation the busses are allowed to arrive late but never leave any stop/station earlier than scheduled time should they arrived earlier.
  5. When a commuter purchases a monthly, seasonally or yearly ticket or simply set up an account for permanent ticket he or she will have a secured car park place at the designated P&R station free of charge.
  6. Casual users may also get a parking space by purchasing the ticket on line to make sure that the parking space would be available at their designated P&R station before leaving their home.
  7. Every company located within the greater CBD will have numerous transferable single driver permission cards, depended upon the size and type of the business, for their employees to drive within the greater CBD for working purpose.
  8. Every resident living within the greater CBD will have a non-transferable single driver permission card for them to drive within the greater CBD.
