Looking at the fully occupied Park & Ride station at Albany– It is still full after it was expanded to 1,000 parking spaces from 500. This tells us that P&R station with free car parking is on extremely high demand.

So, What would happen to North Shore’s traffic condition if we could expand Constellation Drive P&R station to 500 parking spaces from 350 and add 400 parking spaces each at Sunnynook, Glenfield, Birkenhead, Milford and Takapuna? Even better if we could convert one of the motorway lane into Car Pool Only Lane (CPOL) and connect it to  Viaduct, which become CPOL1 in this system. All P&R stations at Glenfield, Birkenhead, Milford and Takapuna shall be connect to CPOL1 with Car Pool Only Lanes respectively!

How about if we expand those idea to have similar capacity of P&R stations at Botany Downs (1000+), Highland Park (400?) and Pakuranga (400?) for buses and 1000+ car park spaces each at New Lynn, Henderson and Silvia Parks for trains?

If you start to think that “It is impossible to build a P&R station at the locations mentioned above because the land around the stations had already been occupied by either business or residents.” Then it means that you are about to have a key to unlock the door to The Future Auckland City Transport System (The FACTS), which will definitely solve Auckland traffic congestions problems.
